All-Star Game Charity 5K & Fun Run
One aspect of the All-Star Game each year that gets overlooked is the Charity 5K and Fun Run. I thought it would be a cool idea to get a group of Mets fans together and form a team for the race – pretty much a Blogger Tailgate with 3.1 miles thrown in. The race will be in the days leading up the All-Star Game on July 16th next summer (which gives us plenty of time for a “Couch to 5K” training regiment). As a part of the “team” I would like to get shirts made for us to wear during the run (Darren from ‘The 7 Line’ offered). Last year, all registered finishers will receive a commemorative All-Star medal and t-shirt and the entry fee was $20 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under. Being that this is so far away the plan is obviously in its infancy, so this is just to get the idea out there.
Here is MLB’s description of the event:
The 5K and Fun Run is a charity race to help raise awareness and funds for the fight against cancer. In 2012, over 8,000 fans of all ages participated in the event that raised over $200,000 for the cause. As a volunteer, you will help with setup, registration, water stations, medal distribution and serve as event guides to direct people to their final destination.
